Right now everything is 10 or 20 percent off. Still more expensive than most brick and mortar stores. Way more than online. You'll have to wait for the discounts to get better. Don't waste your time going this early.
The discounts are generally between 10 and 20 percent right now. Most at 10. It's still less expensive to get the same stuff at other brick and mortar retailers and way less expensive online. It's not worth going this early in the liquidation process.
Went today. Not worth it really. Bought an Uno game as we trashed our old one and it was on sale plus 10% off. Nothing else seemed like a great deal...
I seriously doubt there will be any truly good deals to be had in this sale. It will be just like all of the other bankruptcy "liquidation" sales I have been to. They will mark everything up to MSRP and then mark the stuff down 20% which will still be higher than what it was before the liquidation. Then people who don't have a clue what is a true deal will buy up all the good stuff before it is truly on sale. Sorta like the store Bargain Hunt.
Incidentally a lot of the unsold **** at TRU will end up at Bargain Hunt where it again won't be a bargain.
I'll stick around here and my other usual internet spots and wait for the true bargains.
I went to a couple of stores. Most of the good stuff were gone. Some of you don't think 10% is good enough. By the time you get to bigger discount, nothing will be left to begin with. A lot of parents bought something for their kids for the last TRU experience. I guess a lot of us don't value that anymore. That's why B&M stores are dying.
Incidentally, TRU's 7+ billion in debt is just loose change for Jeff Bezos who is 20-50 billion richer than Bill Gates. He could just buy out TRU and still be the richest man on earth having a quarter trillion. It still amazes me that a guy started out selling books eventually ended up owning the world.
As for the failure of TRU, I think two major blames should go to Bain Capital and Yeah, Wal-mart and s were chipping away toys business. But they had to because Amazon was chipping away their business too. The devoted a lot of floor space to sell toys and reduced other products in order to make room. So I'd blame Amazon for that. In addition, Amazon screwed TRU big time when it breached a contract with TRU, and dragged on the lawsuit and eventually lost and fined for a meager 1 million, but by the time TRU were so behind on online presence. Bain Capital was a vulture who basically handcuffed TRU's ability to renovate.
Sears will definitely be out of business. I'm sure Best Buy, , or Wal-Mart will follow in the distant future. But TRU hurts the most in our hearts.
I can see why they are going out of business, went in today and even with these sales their stuff is still price hefty. Stuff was 30% off yet still ridiculously priced.

The markdowns are slow now. The first round of TR to close (Highland Park, IL) they marked stuff quicker at a higher discount.
You can still find better deals online. Be patient and don't fall for their not really discounts deals
Thank you!
