I just pull the thingie out of the top side of the dryer and peel off the lint. Been working just fine for my 40+ years. I'll save that 8 bucks to put towards more beer.
Last time I had my dryer apart for repairs (after 30 years of faithful service), I suddenly understood what these gizmos are trying to do -- **** up all the particles that fell off the pull-out thingie and were resting at the bottom of the slot.
That being said, I still don't have one of these gizmos. I probably ought to, since it's a lot less work than tearing the machine open again.

Thank you!
