I wish they'd make these out of Raspberry Pi 4 with 4GB RAM (or more) instead of super locked down Android/iOS pieces of trash with insufficient RAM.
My latest Android phone has so many API changes that my favorite apps no longer work, yet the device's security is such utter rubbish that I get pushed sketchy advertisements even when I've uninstalled all the web browsers and apps (since they don't work anyway). I'm only using the thing as a WiFi Internet hotspot for my laptop and Raspberry Pi and yet Android STILL gets malware.
You know these phones/tablets are going to be obsolete in a year or two when they finally increase the RAM spec. And if that doesn't make it obsolete, it'll surely be worthless once the cheap AF, overvoltaged lithium-polymer pouch battery swells up and causes the screen to bulge out/crack in 2 years time.
If it weren't so locked down, you could simply install an app to limit the maximum battery charge to 80% or less for longevity. But no, these are DESIGNED to fail.
On my 3rd one under warranty. 1st headphone jack died, the next one the video died. Other than that I like it after side loading the google play store and getting some decent apps on it. Can put a different launcher on it to eliminate the BS but I haven't bothered. Can't beat it for the price. The Windows based ones are spendy and slow.
I liked my 2 year old HD10 for all of its off line movie integrations with my Prime account. It allowed me to download entire series and binge watch on long plane trips. I just wished that it comes with more powerful CPU
NOTE: This is NEW version just released last week of oct 2019 vs the 2017 model with slower quad core at the same price. I just got the kids version coming tomorrow. It has USB-C charging as well to combat the stupid usb charge port issues.
However you have to consent to Bezos ease dropping on you while on the toilet.
