    I always wonder how many open box items there can be. I mean are they returns or damaged boxes ?

    @DemariusDice
    This is a Samsung, not a Toshiba...

    Also, for console gaming, it's worth noting that none of the Samsung TVs support Dolby-Vision HDR, which seems to be the favored HDR format for the next console generation - they will support standard HDR10, too, of course, but Dolby-Vision is likely to get the most love, as it stands. There are simply too few TVs out there that support HDR10+.

    @h57h -

    Usually returns that have been inspected, cleaned up, and repackaged. They can no longer be sold as 'New', since they were in consumer hands for a time, but I've seen plenty of 'Open Box' items where the box had never actually been opened (or the box opened, but never unpacked).

    Damaged boxes can go into a multiple categories, since you often can't tell if the content was damaged from the outside - if it's only superficially damaged, they often just get sold as is or at a slight discount, if it's sufficiently damaged to warrant opening up and testing it out, and everything works perfectly and is in pristine shape, it could be open box, and if everything works perfectly, but there are slight cosmetic imperfections, it goes into scratch-and-dent; different retailers have different standards, too: I bought a Switch off
    Amazon
    that was labeled as "Minor Cosmetic Imperfections/Scratches", and it had literally never even been taken out of its protective foam bag - I spent over an hour going over every millimeter, and, aside from the USB3 cable having been re-bundled, everything was in perfect condition. And yet... $100 off.
