In a cheaper TT, belt drive is quieter. If you listen to music, belt drives sound better. If you are just trying to make noise (i.e. "DJ"ing) direct drive will work better
Turntables? There is a Religion that says turntables are better than 96khz24 bit recordings. Whats silly is most LPs today are remastered off a digital recording. Even sillier is most turntables are a USB with $3 A/D in signal chain. If you like the scratchiness/harmonic character just add noise to your flac. Don't get me wrong LPs were great fun in the 80s lol Lets start the "tubes are better" too Religion as well. Silly thing is that it has been proven the behringher 204hd 404hd series measures on bench as good as the most expensive and even better than practically all boutique D/A outputs. It measures right at the theoretical limit. Yet "audiophiles" will throw their wallets chasing a ghost output device.
