This is a great phone as long as the battery holds up and you get a case for it. The Essential phone company is dead. You will probably not get all future security updates.
The company seems to be alive and kicking. This month they released the Android 9 Pie and the Agust security updates. All this info is on Essential's Twitter account. They have just named a CTO (chief technology officer) for the first time.
If this phone had a MicroSD slot, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. A MicroSD slot is a must for my needs, so I have to pass. Hopefully, next Essentials version will have it.

Agreed. Even Samsung saw that it was a mistake to leave it out. Still, this phone comes with 128GB of storage. Of course, after overhead, you're probably left with 90-100GB, but that's perhaps enough to store a decent music collection and a few movies, while still leaving lots of room for pics and vids. Also keep in mind that buit-in storage is faster dues to using better flash tech. it's also more secure and reliable due to having a journaling file system with extended permissions. I'd still need a 256GB phone before I'd feel comfortable getting a model without mSD, but this might be enough for most people.

Yeah, it's probably the ONLY right thing they did since release.
