Thanks Ben, I ordered one when I found out that I can remove the drive from the enclosure and use it as a bare drive.
Cons: - This thing DOES have mandatory hardware encryption on the enclosure PCB.
- If the enclosure dies, it is unlikely you will be able to recover your data because it was encrypted. Or get someone to decrypt for you.
Funny how they implemented this. Hackers are going to break into your home, see this, and not take the entire enclosure (which if they did, can access the data), instead they're going to see it's a My Book and decide, "I'll just crack this open and take the HDD out while I'm here and leave the enclosure behind."
Might want to stay away from this one. Hackers recently exploited two flaws in WD My Book drives that remotely wiped the devices: https://www.engadget.com/western-digital-my-book-live-factory-reset-two-vulnerabilities-044122712.html - eraserhed
The flaw is for "My Book Live" this is just the My Book, no Cloud support unless you install WD Discovery which I wouldn't advise.
