I own this so consider this real, everyday experience - bought refurbed a year and a bit ago when frankly the smart display sales were flagging and people were bringing them back. I got mine off for $75.65 from vipoutlet and it was as good as new; list price at the time was something silly like $250 - it's much discounted nowadays.
So what do I like? Well it's dedicated, the sound it pretty good and deep and the screen has decent resolution. The miracast screen sharing ability (read longevity) means that from my android tablet or google browser I can project eg videos to the smart display. It also has YouTube built in for videos, plus Spotfify and Pandora for music. I can video or voice call from this as though I'm coming from my mobile.
What don't I like? Overall you're being fed with items - SEARCHING for items is my problem here. Sure you can ask for something like "Show me mosquito low level WW2 videos on YouTube", but browsing is not realistic on this device - it is much better when you KNOW what you want and can be that specific - so it's best used in partnership with a real PC / browser or mobile. Also would love to see a headphone jack. Lastly, something that's really been irritating me lately is the Google News widget - firstly it serves you what it thinks you want to see, NOT what you really want to see (goes back to searching vs being served), and also Google News has a long running issue with the video titles not matching content - typically comes from webpages where the first video listed is maybe some historical background video and the actual video the webpage is referring to is 2nd in order. Happens all the time and it's annoying as hell - eg. you're lookng for a daily pandemic update and instead get a history of vaccines.
For the price I paid for it I am satisfied but not overjoyed - this device could do so much more - whether Google will actually develop vs stagnate this platform is something only time will tell.

Just another invasive Google spy to put in your home. - dd
Not exactly. Another "invasive CHINESE spy" to put in your home. 😉
On the other hand: we picked this up from the last time it was on sale (same price) and it puts our older Home Nest/Hub to shame. Gorgeous screen and great sound.
