A 50" 4K under $200 is not bad at all.

I got in on the 55" Hisense deal from
    Target
a couple weeks and for $199 I'm impressed! Yeah, there's a little 'light bleed' around the edges, but that can be adjusted to get rid of most of it... The picture quality is superb on everything but SD sources, the UI is really snappy (no lag between channels or sources), OTA picture is excellent and the tuner is strong, viewing angle is very good, and the sound quality and clarity are more that good enough! I have it connected via hdmi to a media server running Windows 10 and that looks great, too!

How the heck are these TV's getting so cheap? I still see some Samsungs and Sony's for $1k with similar specs. Is it worth it blowing that much money when you can get like 5 of these with the same money?

Probably not. At this price difference, even if the cheap TV konks out after a few years, you can buy another one and still be coming out ahead for years and years...

As for how these are so cheap: have you ever heard of "Hisense" before? It's a no-name brand vs your long established, Samsung and Sony brand names. People will pay extra for the brand name itself, and they're priced accordingly.

That, and being a smart TV, it might well be spying on you, selling your data to advertisers/corporations/gov't, and opening backdoors to unknown third parties. If I were to buy one of these "smart" TV's, I'd personally avoid hooking it up to the Internet entirely.

It's like free OTA TV: you think the show is the product, but actually, you are the product.

note that it will upscale pretty bad...the reason why it is so cheap. That means 720p is not as good as other TV. Rtings noted hisense is the worse tv for upscaling

Got a similar TV in 55" for $200 from
    Target
on Nov 6th. 1080p DVD feed via HDMI and the apps like Netflix, Hulu,
    Amazon
are excellent! Very quick app processing (little to no lag). Sound is ok even in the very large and open room it is in. This 50" is still a great deal
