You can get AA to D adapter sleeves on and elsewhere to use LSD rechargeable NiMH, or there are Tenergy Centura D sized LSD NiMH, though either way, the batteries will cost more than the light.
It would be nice if they provided some kind of runtime estimate, like X # of days operation at 5 minutes per day lit up, though with space in it to hold 4 x D cells, there's plenty of room to implement an alternative power supply, or a 1A USB phone charger would "probably" work hardwired to it.
