That's SUPER interesting, and I'm really tempted. Only one thing holding me back: if it only works via the phone USB port, you're severely limited in how long you can use it. A wild guess would be 30 minutes or maybe an hour? I wonder if there's a way to charge while recording, e.g., with a USB hub?

EDIT: aha, I see it has it's own built-in rechargeable battery. I still wonder how much power draw there is on the phone itself. LOL just checked the specs and it says internal battery is good for 60 mins.

Yeah, I'm wondering. That's basically what I asked -- whether feeding your phone into a "hub" with multiple ports might allow one of them to charge the phone. The more I think about it, the less likely it seems. Remember: the Flir is ALREADY sending image info to the phone (to its proprietary app) through the USB port. I'm not familiar with a setup (OTG or otherwise) that allows the single USB port on the phone to be used for charging and data simultaneously, but maybe it's so. 🤷🏼‍♀️

^ The USB C spec allows for simultaneous charging and data transfer on same port but it would be up to the device design whether it's capable.

If the cam has 60 minute battery life, it doesn't seem unreasonable to assume the phone can last that long using the port only for data transfer, assuming of course that the phone was charged.

Thanks @dave_c. I should have said: I have plenty of experience with a single USB C carrying both data and charge, but haven't run into that when the end device is a phone. Perhaps I'll test my Pixel 4a and see if it's so!
