^ Most such products are only rated for 10 years anyway, or some older CO alarms only 7 years.
IMO the main reason to get one with a replaceable battery is if you often have false (or arguably real, still airborn contaminants like burning food while cooking or sawdust in your workshop) triggers enough to wear the battery down prematurely.
Many things besides a legitimate smoke, health danger can set off the photoelectric type including cooking/burning things, condensation, even sawdust in my workshop can foul them so I put a shower cap over them till the dust settles, but eventual dust buildup will happen anyway, even if you have room air cleaners there had to be dust in the air for them to be doing anything.
