Update [5/20]: Phase 3 is live. We've updated the store & brand deal feeds, which are now identical to the home page design.

Update [5/07]: Phase 2 is live. We have updated the deal page, updating to a line graph for retail / sale price history and expanded the deal history below that.

Update [4/13]: The first phase is complete! Refresh to see Ben's big makeover and please let us know if you notice anything buggy.

Hey Ben's Fans! Hope you're having a good...Wednesday? Thursday? Oh who knows what day it is anymore!

We wanted to give you a heads up that we will be rolling out a new "responsive" redesign for the site, with the first phase starting in about a week or two. Responsive design is a type of web design that keeps the look / feel / experience of the site identical across every screen type; desktop, tablet or smartphone.

The main changes to the Ben's experience will be noticed on the mobile side. In addition to faster load times (yay!!!), other mobile improvements will include:

  • The ability to “Go to Store” directly from the deal feed
  • The ability to click a drop-down in the deal feed to see the description / info related to the deal
  • The ability to keep your location in the deal feed. All deal details can be expanded / read without leaving the feed

You can read more about the details of the redesign at our blog. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments.

Stay safe and stay well!

"@GreatWhite: ...In particular, we do already have a "recently viewed" section https://bensbargains.com/recently-viewed/"

Never knew it was there..."Hottest | Newest" are at the top of the deals list...maybe consider "Hottest | Newest | Recent Views" to make it easy for people to see the last 10 deals that stirred their interest?

Think about how many times you picked something up in a store, didn't buy it, then later you wish you'd have bought it...same on the web, viewed a deal, didn't buy, then came back looking for it...make it easy to find if you want to boost sales. Even if a person doesn't specifically come back looking for an item, seeing it again may just nudge them to buy it.

Why have "show expired deals" checked? That just adds to scrolling and can generate a negative feeling as they see a super deal...but it's expired...that's like holding food in front of a starving person and saying "NOPE! You can't have it!"

Yeah, I like the idea of making the "Recent Views" more prominent. We're actively working on upcoming tweaks like that.

We have "show expired deals" checked by default so that people can set Deal Alerts (the little bell icon above the 'go to store' button) to receive an email notification if the item is posted again/gets more stock/etc. Your custom Deal Alerts can be viewed/edited on this page: https://bensbargains.com/alert-manager/

Both the Alert Manager and the Recently Viewed page are linked in the top navigation under "My Account". We are working on ways to make these features more easily accessible.

I can't get product images to load since the redesign. Even after allowing many third party scripts that weren't needed before. They still won't load. That combined with only two listing appearing per page make it too cumbersome to continue visiting.

@guest1234 "I can't get product images to load since the redesign."

-Are you experiencing this only on the mobile version of the website?

-What browser and operating system are you using?

-Does this only happen on the homepage, or also deal detail pages (like this one)?

"-Are you experiencing this only on the mobile version of the website?"

Desktop.

"-What browser and operating system are you using? "

Latest FF. W7.

"-Does this only happen on the homepage, or also deal detail pages (like this one)?"

When allowing scripts/fetch/ping from bensbargains & bensimages & cloudflare the images do not load on either the homepage or the deal detail pages like this one. Not allowing the scripts/fetch/ping from those three then the product image will load on only the deal detail page but still not the homepage listing.

Have tried various other settings but I have ruled out the most likely culprits. Was never an issue before the redesign.

Thanks.

@Guest12345 I'm not able to duplicate this, but I'm opening a ticket to investigate this. Thank you for the details. Can you tell me if you experience the same thing in another browser, also?

Though I rarely sign in I'm a long-time Ben's visitor, a G-Dog from the early days, and I visit here on average 4 times per day WITH A HUGE LIST of purchase-savings because of BB.com and, so far, the new site design is off to a great start! The larger photo's and the couple of little layout tweaks pop out nicely via both smart phone and desktop PC access.

Thank you for looking into it. I only use the one browser.

I do not understand coding so this may not be helpful but looking at the site code under page source, the images that load seem to be listed as img src and the ones that don't are all listed as data-src. The images on the home page under top carousel are viewable but all the ones to each deal listing on the home page are not. Viewing a single deal page the images are viewable but only if I do not allow scripts from bensbargains (if I do then that image disappears also).

^ Try launching Firefox in safe mode. Why are you creating new accounts, 1234 vs 12345?
