Maybe if you can use your own wood to start a fire and boil it but using a stove still costs money ;) Would be curious which would use less, stove or this...
Never understood illogical comments like yours. You can rationalize away most gadgets today, toasters, microwaves, electric mixers, instant pots, etc. All that can be done with a stove and hand tools, why all the gadgets (you don't have any gadgets I'm guessing, correct?).
Maybe think about someone other than yourself. If you truly can't see that some may find it handy to have a gadget that you put in eggs, bit of water, walk away, and have consistent eggs that won't be overcooked (and will infact cool) if you don't touch them again for some time, then you have an issue. Bad example, but it's convenience like an "egg toaster", sort of.
I could see a separate gadget if you have limited stove burners or often cook multiple things simultaneously so they're all occupied with something else, but for things I fix that doesn't usually involve poached eggs so I'm fine using boiling water.
To get eggs just to a hard boiled, light colored yolk and be much easier to peel, heat the water to boiling first and have the eggs at refrigerator temperature when you put them in. This thermal shock results in the shells coming off much easier than if you heat the water with the eggs already in it. Boil for 10 minutes, then take them out and let them sit to cool - no need to put in a cold water bath. Add a minute if you have XXL eggs.
